Brave New World 美麗新世界

“But I don’t want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.”

Written by British author Aldous Huxley in 1931 and published a year later, Brave New World is one of the most famous dystopian novels.

Set in the year 2540, the novel opens in London, where all citizens are genetically bred and conditioned to fill different roles in a hierarchical social structure. The government also shapes their minds and behaviour through hypnosis. People live in the World State of "Community, Identity, Stability", but have lost their individuality and freedom of thought. It is not until John the Savage enters the civilised world that peoples's conformity is challenged.

Though it was published over 80 years ago, many of the prophecies depicted in the novel, especially the technological advances, have come true.

Bookbinding 書本裝訂

Bookbinding is the process of assembling a book from paper or other materials. It emerged in the 1st century , when the Romans stacked sheets of written pages to become codices, and it quickly replaced the use of scrolls.

Nowadays, different types of bookbinding methods are available for various uses. Saddle stitching, where pages are stapled through the fold line, is perfect for making thin books, while perfect binding, which makes use of flexible glue, is preferred for thicker volumes. Case binding is often used to give hardcover books a longer shelf live.
